“It is through the power and music and magic of stories and poems that children can expand their own intellectual curiosity, develop the empathy and awareness that they will need to tackle the complexities of their own emotions, of the human condition in which they find themselves.”
— Michael Morpurgo
Happy New Year friends!
The Christmas holidays were a time of hunkering down and hibernating for us – stories read, board games played, puzzles completed and films watched (and the odd walk thrown in for good measure).
As we all settle back into routines, old and new, I’ve been thinking afresh what books my children might enjoy in the year ahead. I’m always on the look out for some of Morpurgo’s “music and magic”, so do let me know of any books your children have enjoyed. I’ve compiled a list of the ones my 12 year old girl and 10 year old boy have enjoyed over the last few months (having filtered out the Christmas ones). It might help as you scan the abundance of books online, or in store, or at the library.
Happy browsing.
