I have fond memories of arriving at my grandparent’s in Spain each summer, and my grandmother had thoughtfully chosen books from their bookshelves and put them on my bedside table for me to enjoy during my stay. It was such a treat to retreat after lunch to the cool of my room for a siesta and be taken off on an adventure as I turned the pages of a du Maurier, Chekov or Hardy novel.
So why not get a stack of books ready for your kids to enjoy this summer? Head down to your local library or check out the secondhand bookshops near you.
